On Thursday 25th June the U12's made history to become the very first Ballymore Eustace girl's team to win a league final when defeating a very brave Athgarvan team in division 5 with a score line of 2.09 - 2.02. Having defeated them in the league earlier, they were feeling confident but a little nervous and started with the first point of the day from Mayah Sammon; also scoring in the first half Ellen Carter with 1.01 to give us a lead of 1.02 to 1.01 at half time.

Athgarvan got off to the better start in the second half with a goal to put them ahead by 2 but Ballymore fought back with a point from Natasha Murphy, then Athgarvan scored their last score of the day while Ballymore added a further 1.01 from Ellen Carter, 2 points from Natasha Murphy, captain Aoife Murphy, Lucy Field and Amy Horan 1pt each. The team on the day was in goal Cody Behan the full back line of Beth Doyle, Shannon Doyle, Savanagh Fisher; half back's Grace Kerr, Hazel Stewart Byrne; Ciara Fennan midfield of Heather Sammon and Molly (Sarah )Cullen half forward line of Lucy Field, Natasha Murphy, Amy Horan and full forward line combining Mayah Sammon, Aoife Murphy captain and Ellen Carter who played her best game to date.

The girls have come a long way in a short time since their first training session in the handball alley in November 2007 when Steve Deegan, Frank Murphy and Mick Horan decided to start up the girl's team.Well done, Girls and keep up the hard work.

Feile Girl's team news
Another first was the girl's u14 team playing in Feile 2009.They were entered into Division 4 hosting a New York team who had been beaten in the final in 2008 and had 9 of the same team travelling with them this year. The Ballymore team led by their Captain Emily Mahon played on Friday but were beaten by a very strong New York team.On Saturday morning we had an early start meeting at the pitch to travel to Castledermot to play two more match's v Warwickshire and Castledermot.New York 5.08 v Castledermot 0.00 was the score in the first match then the rain came and delayed proceeding's.

A decision was made to run off the skill's competition next to give the pitch a chance to dry.Molly Cullen was our representative and she was very unlucky only beaten by 2 seconds to continue to next round.Next up was Ballymore v Warwickshire who got off to the better start scoring a point and then a goal although Molly was unlucky to hit the upright in the first half before scoring a point, half time of 1.01 to 0.01 with all to play for then Warwickshire scored another point and again Amy Kelly was unlucky hitting the upright. Warwickshire then added another 1.01 to take their winning tally to 2.03 to 0.01.

We had a short rest and then with our pride to play for took the field against a Castledermot side who beat us twice in the league our girl's with tired leg's played very well, fighting for every ball and winning with a scoreline of 4.03 to 1.03,scorers Fiona Field 2.02 Molly Cullen 2.01, a great finish to a great tournament, well done, Girls.
