Ballymore Ladies GAA

Welcome to another month in the lives of Ballymore Ladies GAA. Since your last update, we have begun our journey on becoming the lean mean football playing machines we know lurk within us. Notwithstanding this, we re-commenced training 18th Feb up at the football pitch. Twenty-six of Ballymore’s finest turned out to train!!
Simon Muphy and Joe Piggot have taken us under their respective wings and are putting in a big effort to prepare us for our first league match. John Brown has been recruited to ensure we’re the fittest women in the county (suspect injuries have increased dramatically).
Well, we have had quite a bit going on in the past few weeks. We had our first match of the year. It was against Castlemitchell away. Castlemitchell are a Division 2 side and Ballymore Ladies are in Division 4. Considering this and the horrendous weather conditions, we put in a good fight but we were unlucky on the night. Good performances on the night from Fran Burke and Gemma Swords.
Good luck and best wishes to Sarah Malone who left for Boston on Monday 10th March for a six month college work placement. the search is on for a new goalie!! She will be a big loss.
Also, we would like to wish congratulations to Valerie and Ronan Byrne on the arrival of their new daughter Keeva. And hope to see Val back in yellow and green once she has recovered!!

Supper Dance
Saturday 1st March saw us host the third annual supper dance in Poulaphouca House. Despite lower numbers than had been experienced in previous years, a great night was had by all and of course we all looked like football playing princesses. The food was super and music provided by “Epic” kept everyone on the dance floor all night. Awards were presented on the night for players from both the ladies and mens teams.
For the ladies: For the men:
Senior Player of the Year: Michelle Hubbard Kevin McNally
Junior Player of the Year: Stephanie Harney Kevin Murphy
Club Person of the Year: William Clarke Eugene Gilroy
Most Improved Player: Sarah Malone

Cheltenham Preview Night
Monday 3rd of March was the Cheltenham Preview Night in Paddy Murphys. There was a fantastic turnout to see the Clash of the Titans with Matt Chapman from At The Races squaring up to Monaghan based trainer Oliver Brady. The pundit dual was refereed by Darragh Fitzpatrick from Cill Dara Betting, Fr. Sean Breen, Robert Catterson racing journalist, Fran Flood trainer, Damien McElroy Irish Independant and Paddy Aspell from Ardenode Stud.
The panel clashed over “Harchibald” in the Champion Hurdle and “Denman” and “Kauto Star” in the Gold Cup. Jim Lewis sent a fax all the way from sunny Tenerife giving an each way chance to his horse “Breedsbreeze”. Also locally owned “Won in the Dark” was tipped for the Triumph Hurdle on Friday. Darragh Fitzpatrick offered Matt Chapman a very interesting €500 charity bet which he placed on his horse “Chapoturgeon” at odds of 12/1.
We wonder how they all finished and we hope you had a flutter and made some money!!! The ladies would like to thank Darragh Fitzpatrick who donated €1,250 in total which included a €500 free bet to the raffle, Paddy Murphy for running the successful night, the pundits who travelled from near and far, Jim Lewis in Tenerife, Punchestown, Naas and The Curragh Race Courses, Fogartys Shop, The Village Store and Costcutters, the ladies who made the sambo’s (you know who you are) and all the girls who helped on the night. A big thank you to Pa Nolan who was a fabulous MC on the night.
Until next month...............Jackie & Louise
